Rob + Kristin | An Intimate YXE Wedding

fbDSC_9996.jpg

Effortlessly, these two showed up, full of love, as I’m sure they do every single day. It was evident that their hearts are for one another, not just in a “cloud nine” way, but in a deep devoted way. Every moment we spent with them was relaxed, and overflowing with such joy and love. There was a peace sown through that day, as they celebrated with those closest to them. Their family and dearest friends gathered around them, they vowed to always choose one another. Here’s a little glimps into their beautiful day.

Emily + Jeff | Elk Ridge Resort Wedding

THIS WEDDING!!  Where do we even start?!  The love was immense in so many ways.  I've always felt that how someone is loved and received by others tells a lot about who they are.  This is absolutely true of this couple, especially Emily, the beautiful bride.  Her family and friends lavished love on her the whole day through, evidence of a life lived out of love.  The dance of love between Jeff and Emily stirred our hearts and left us breathless and in awe over and over again.  We could go on and on about how incredible these two are, but we think the photos speak for themselves.  A story of deep love woven through each image.

Emily has incredible parents, and she has walked in such incredible honour toward them.  It's not something we had to ask her parents, it was simply the evidence that so clearly proved this truth that day.  After her mom helped her into her gorgeous gown, and her father saw her in all her beauty while tears running, it was time for Jeff to see his beautiful bride.

Joy and excitement filled the air,  and peace rushed in as the moment finally came.  Every bit of this beautiful day, planned out with intention and purpose.  A great longing was being fulfilled as they made their way to the tiny chapel, where they gave each other their forever's.

It was time to celebrate all that had just taken place, and celebrate they did!  To say we were honoured to capture their beautiful wedding day would be an understatement.  The day left us full, inspired and truly grateful for the work that we are so blessed to do!

THANK YOU, Jeff and Emily for choosing us to capture your remarkable love story!  You guys are all kinds of amazing!!  Xoxo.

Papa's Love

This family changed my life.  I met them for the first time about a year and a half ago.  They were here investing in my church family, Awakening Canada.  Renee and I immediately connected over our love for photography.  But the truth is, I had no idea how much of an impact their beautiful lives would have on mine at that point.  This is a family that not only talks about Papa's deep love, they embody it in how they live.  I will never be the same because of them.

The girls played and adventured through their park-like yard, full of freedom and curiosity.  They twirled their dresses, climbed trees and swung without a care in the world.

Matt talks a lot about his Papa's love - a God who not only made us, but takes delight in knowing every detail of who we are, and longs to share His heart with us.  It's obvious that he walks in this same love with his girls, and every time I go through their photographs, I'm reminded once again, of Papa's deep love for me.  These beautiful girls will grow up safe and confident in both their daddy's love and their Papa's love for them.  What a beautiful inheritance.

The love these girls received from their mama was equally as beautiful.  I watched her eyes follow them with delight, and gently she beckoned them with her kind words.  She often referred to them as "my darling", and as I watched her love and champion her girls, I let my heart receive from her beautiful wisdom and grace as a mother.  Even in the midst of a life that is "full-on" and brimming with chaos, she remains graceful and faithful.  I can hear Papa saying, "well done, you have planted your roots deep, and your children will flourish in the soil of My love."

We concluded our time indoors, with snuggle attacks and dancing.  Everything about these people reminds me that the Kingdom of God is found in family, and that Papa's love runs deeper then any ocean and is given without performance.  I've carried New Zealand in my heart for over 11 years now, but now I can finally say, that I've found my people, my Kiwi family, the ones who have now made this land that I love feel like a second home.  Thank you Matt + Renee for welcoming me into your lives, your home.  I have deep love for you and your beautiful girls.

CONNECTION Looks Different For Everyone

I was having a conversation with a good friend last week, talking about Meraki + Light, and what Tammy and I do.  As we were discussing mine and Tammy’s vision, “pursuers of connection”, he mentioned that he noticed that in a lot of our work our clients seem very “touchy”, and asked if this is something we expect for our sessions.  A very good question, I thought, which led me to write this post.

The thing is, connection looks different for everyone.  We don’t all connect over snuggles by the fire, or by gazing into one another's eyes.  It’s true, each family, each couple is unique in how they connect.  Being the word junkie that I am, I went ahead and looked up the definition of “connection”.  It means:  how we relate to or become one with someone.  So most simply, we are really passionate about capturing how you relate with your spouse, your kids, your loved ones.  The big question here is, “what makes you feel ONE with your spouse?  What makes you feel ONE with your kids?  You know those moments when all you can think about is the very moment you are in, and how good the unity or “oneness” you feel with that person feels in that moment?  What gets you there?  Is it a good conversation?   Is it a long walk by the river?  Or is it being tickled until you laugh, until you cry?

It’s these things, that we truly long to capture, and preserve for you - because aren’t these the moments we want to remember for all our days?

So if you’ve ever looked at our work and thought, “we’re not touchy-feely enough for this” - great, we don’t want you to be!  We want to capture what connection looks like for you, for your family.  We aren’t looking for you to pretend you’re that touchy-feely family when you’re not.  If you connect by getting out into the great outdoors, then we want to explore with you!  If you connect by telling funny jokes and stories, then great - we want to hear your best ones!  If you connect by sharing a good conversation with the one you love, then great, we want to give you the space and the freedom to be FULLY yourselves.

Our whole heart and passion behind being “pursuers of connection” is that these are the places that healthy, whole families are built.  When we learn to love well, and foster our connection, our relationships flourish.  Sometimes this means pushing for the connection that makes your husband feel loved, or vice versa.  You see, for us, this is so much more then just photographs.  We really care about your families being healthy, whole and full of connection.  We really care about telling your story in it’s truest form.  We want to create something with you that is authentic, something that you’re proud to pass down to your children and your children’s children.

In the end, our stories are all about how we connected with those we loved.
